Standing more or less non-stop for eight hours makes your feet hurt, especially when you're not used to it. Tomorrow, Tuesday and Christmas Eve I do the same, for nine hours each day. Joy of joys.

Last night I got the first available bus from work to meet the usual gang at the local entertainment complex to celebrate djw's 18th birthday (which happens to be today. Happy birthday!). The original plan was to all meet at the Frankie & Benny's restaurant, where we'd have dinner before going upstairs to watch Return of the King. It being Saturday night, I hadn't accounted for the fact that the place would be bursting at the seams with people, and I wouldn't be able to get a table for four for about an hour.

With that new idea scrapped, the three of us went to Pizza Hut instead and placed djw's order for him in anticipation of his arrival, 25 minutes late, at the end of an all-day car journey from London. After a quick but lovely meal we headed upstairs and grabbed a row of five seats in the cinema hall, so the fifth member of the usual gang would have a seat when he turned up three minutes into the film. I finally got home at around midnight, a whole ten hours before today's shift started.

Currently sitting in the downstairs flat bratsitting. The boys went to sleep about two hours ago, and at the moment I'm having real trouble staying awake. Tomorrow's shift starts in ten hours, but if I'm lucky I can use my home time tomorrow to wrap presents, tidy and decorate my room and the trees. Maybe then it'll feel like Christmas is coming.
